working too much

I work too much. And my camera batteries are dead, so I can't take any pictures for a day or so. Not that I have anything to take pictures of. I haven't been knitting at all because I've been at work. I'm working 13 and 14 hour days and it's really getting to me. Thank goodness I have a few days off soon.....

charlotte

I'm starting to not like this pattern. I thought it would be easier. I've already had to rip it once. The pattern that I bought is not much help. I just keep hoping that I'll be able to keep going once I can't follow the chart anymore. I didn't know it was going to be this hard!!! Anyway, the other day I did a trade with Monique and she sent me some really cool stuff. I got a Katia magazine, a cleckheaton pattern book and a patons pattern book, all of which i've never seen in the states. I was so cool to get a package from Australia as well! I sent her Vintage Knits by Sarah Dallas. She was looking for it on the knitty coffeeshop trade board, and I was looking to get rid of it. I think it was a very fair trade. Thanks Monique!

Package

I finally got the package my boy ordered me for Christmas! It's a Charlotte's Web pattern and 5 skeins of koigu. I'm so happy I finally get to make this shawl. I know everyone else has made it, but it's so beautiful I just have to knit it. I don't wear shawls. But I have to knit it, even if I don't wear it. :) It's just too good to pass up.

quiz

I just had to do this quiz:
Knitting Guru
You appear to be a Knitting Guru. You love knitting
and do it all the time. While finishing a piece
is the plan, you still love the process, and
can't imagine a day going by without giving
some time to your yarn. Packing for vacation
involves leaving ample space for the stash and
supplies. It can be hard to tell where the yarn
ends and you begin.

Still waiting

I haven't written in a few days because I work long hours on Fri, Sat and Sun. I'm so tired when I get home, I don't feel like doing anything. I didn't even knit for 2 days and that's a long time for me since i'm so knit-addicted. I haven't got my knit package that my boy said is on it's way. I forgot that there was no mail today. I just hope that it's cool. My wavy scarf got eaten by my cat she hasn't done that in a long time. I guess she didn't like it. I'm still working on the marilyn, just slowly. When I get bored with a project, I don't work on it much or at all. I just start working on a small project like a scarf or hat to ease the boredom. ;) Does anyone else do that?

wavy

This is my wavyscarf that I started today. I'm using (GASP) Lion brand wool ease because I had enough for a scarf lying around. I'm not a yarn snob, i'm too broke to be. It's hard for me to spend 10 bucks on a 50 gram ball of yarn and have to buy 15 of them to finish a project. I've tried buying them little by little and the yarn store runs out of the yarn, or something silly like that. So, i've been buying cheaper yarn all at once and then I can finish the project easier. I do love the feel of the natural fibers though. I felt some Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk the other day and it was Oh, so soft!!! I would love to make something out of that. But I guess i'll have to wait. But I do enjoy the acrylic because I can get it all different places in town (even Walmart) and there are so many different yarns to choose from. Someday, I'll have more money, and i'll still be buying acrylic!

more marilyn

I got the back done on Marilyn. I only have 5 rows of the front done so far, but since this yarn isn't worsted it's more chunky, it's going by pretty fast. My boy said he got me a knitting-type surprise and it should be here in the mail any day now, so i'm really excited. We weren't able to afford Christmas presents because we took a trip and it wiped us out financially. It was a great trip though. We went to LA for a gaming convention. And by gaming I mean dungeons and dragons type gaming. Yes, i'm a gamer. But not as hard core as the boy and his friends. But there are a few games that I truly love. One's called killer bunnies and the quest for the magic carrot. It's a chaotic card game in which you are trying to keep your bunnies alive while killing the other players bunnies. It's extremely fun, check it out...www.killerbunnies.com

Stuff

I saw a lady at my work the other day that was wearing a scarf out of this stuff. I asked her if she made it, she said no. But she paid 50 bucks for it. I'm in the wrong business. If I knew sooner that I could make 50 bucks off of 6 dollars worth of yarn, i'd be making tons of scarfs. But I knit for fun and relaxation, not to drive myself crazy trying to keep up with making garter stitch scarfs all day....Major kudos to those of you that do that, I would be bored out of my skull. I can't even do Stockinette stitch for a long time...I need some kinda change in the pattern or I get bored. Anyways, it's still snowing and I've got to get to sleep so I can dig the car out tomorrow.

More progress....

I got some more work done on simply marilyn today. I didn't take a picture though. I'm hoping to get access to a better camera soon. It's been snowing like crazy here and that's not normal for Reno. We get snow in the winter, but not 3 feet of it. Maybe a couple of inches, but that's it. I can't drive my car and it's very difficult to get to work in the frickin snow! Thankfully, my mom-in-law has a 4X4 jeep with snow tires, so I don't have to drive my tiny car. I will just be happy when this snow is gone. I don't know how people who get tons of snow every year deal with it, I guess they're just used to it. BUT NOT ME! I just moved to Reno from Central California and it doesn't snow there. Oh, well it's not going away anytime soon. I've been reading some other knitting bloggers new years resolutions and there was one that I need to apply to myself this year. I can't remember where I read it but here it is.
I will knit on one (and only one) project a week. I can only cast on for a new one if I finished the weekly I was working on. Since i'm a starter and not a finisher, I think I need to try to do this resolution this year. I have way too many projects going and way too much yarn in my stash to be buying new yarn and starting new stuff. But it's so hard not to buy more yarn!!!! I can't resist when something new comes into my LYS and I touch it, I must have it. Grrrr, I need to stay away, but I just can't!

Ranting

Will someone get this woman a horse????

I'm going to have to say what i'm going to say sooner or later so here goes: I HATE PONCHOS. Even if they have pretty stitches or nice yarn they still suck. I have a picture of my mom in the 70's with a poncho on, and they didn't look good then either. I don't know how or why this trend came back, but it needs to go away. I had a dear friend ask me to make her a poncho and I refused. I just can't bring myself to waste my time making something that ugly. I have been seeing so many poncho patterns in my favorite magazines and it's pissing me off because they are taking away patterns that I would like to make to throw in these 2 rectangle sewed together patterns that a monkey could figure out. No offense to any of you out there who like these things, I just had to get this out because it's driving me crazy!

Marilyn

(Sorry the picture is not that bright)
My SimplyMarilyn
is getting bigger!! I got to work on it for about an hour today and I started decreasing for the armholes. I can't wait til this is finished. It's really going to turn out pretty. I'm not making it for me though, I could never pull something like this off. I have to lose some weight first. (sigh.....) But, it's going to look very pretty on my friend, I'm not saying who becuase she might be reading....

Shopping...

I was walking through the bookstore today, and I couldn't resist this book. I had seen the cover before, but never the inside. It has some really great patterns. There is a lace sweater that i'm dying to make. I'm working on a lot of projects right now, so I really don't want to start anything new yet. I need to take some more pictures so I can put more stuff in my gallery. ;)

My kitty

Here is a picture of my kitty, Neela. She's the best cat i've ever had. She likes to wake me up in the morning by licking my face. It's like rubbing sandpaper up against my cheek, but it's so sweet. I know it's because she wants me to get out of my nice warm bed and feed her, but I still think it's the cutest thing. She purrs so loud, I can hear it from across the room. And of course, she loves to get in my knitting bag and play with the yarn. It's hard to knit sometimes because she likes to play so much. She loves catnip so I got her a catnip toy that I throw far away for her to play with and she leaves my yarn alone. I've never had a cat quite like her. She has such a well-defined personality. She's fun and oh so sweet. I don't know what i'd do without her...

Well, I'm back!

It took a long time, but I got my blog back together. I went through a divorce and I lost all the data on my computer, so I had to start all over from scratch. Thank goodness Missa(from midnight knitter, the designer of my blog set up) saved everything I needed to get going. It's going to be slow going getting everything back up, but I got a lot done today. I'm not putting my chat box back up because no one ever used it. I just hope I will have some readers again. As soon as I can get picture posting to work, I will post some pictures. I also have some Finished object and Works in progress galleries up on the left bar, so check them out!
